If you’ve been walking around Leeds Dock recently, you may have noticed  (if you’ve peered through the glass in one of the empty units) some impressive pieces of art in production, ready to create an exciting 100 meter long explosion of colour and creativity along the waterside. I became curious about these strange creative happenings after seeing interested posts on social media from local residents, equally as curious about all this creative activity….so of course we went on a mission to find out more!

The clever team at Leeds Dock commissioned local artist Joy Gilleard from Quarts to co-ordinate as many as 25 local artists to create this amazing showcase of street art, after discovering some of her work at York Minster in October 2013.

Joy (pictured in front of the piece she has collaborated on) has brought together a group of local graffiti artists and illustrators to create this huge temporary installation across the dock, designed to provide an inspiring cover to building work about to begin as part of Allied London’s re-vamp of the Dock with the creation of a new enterprise centre.

You cant help but feel inspired about what Joy is doing, bringing a group of artists together to create, collaborate and inspire each other with a genuine desire to connect with the environment and importantly the wider community. This collaboration will continue for the next 2 Saturdays in June, the 7th and 14th, before this huge installation is erected across the waterside just in time for this years Waterfront Festival.

The artists are running an open studio and welcome anyone to join them to watch, talk and simply discover the wealth of colour and imagination the collective is creating.

Want to find out more? Just call in and meet Joy and her colleagues in the space across from the Alea Casino at Leeds Dock this Saturday or the next. We were blown away by the talent and creativity helping to bring Leeds Dock back to life!

The installation will be up at Leeds Dock for 3 months after the Waterfront Festival so make sure you visit and take a look!

Where's Wally? He's at Leeds Dock of course!
Where’s Wally? He’s at Leeds Dock of course!

One of the most popular and spectacular sights at Leeds Waterfront Festival has got to be the FABULOUS Dragon Boats Races and we are delighted the races will be back in force this year!

This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to get a team together, have some fun on the water and raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care. Did we mention the fancy dress! There’s a prize for the best dressed team!

Check out these delightful daisies found at http://yorksphotos.blogspot.co.uk

The dragon boat races take place on Saturday 28th June at Leeds Dock. The rules are simple! Teams can be made up of 12-20 persons (with a maximum of 16 rowers and 1 drummer on the boat at a time) and costs £500 to take part.

What a fabulous way to support a very deserving cause and have fantastic fun along the way! And…to ramp up the competition, the Leeds Dock team will be awarding a prize for the best and most INNOVATIVE fancy dress.

So come on, what are you waiting for….join the race and be a part of the only LEEDS sporting event worth talking about this summer….ok well, unless you count the Grande Depart of course!

If you want to get involved, please send an email to the lovely Lucy from the Leeds Dock team at lucy.whalley@alliedlondon.com

Yesterday was a big day for us! We got to meet the team at Leeds Dock tucked away in their creative hub on the Waterfront. This young vibrant trio, Stephen, Lucy and Jenna were a really inspiring bunch, waxing lyrical about the exciting development plans for Leeds Dock and very importantly what they have in store for Leeds Waterfront Festival this year!

It was clear these guys have the local community at the heart of everything they do and creating a BIG splash this year at New Dock with spectacular entertainment for all is exactly what’s needed to launch an exciting year of re-development at Leeds Dock!

Jenna is an events co-ordinator based in Manchester and her stories of a recent duck race at Manchester Waterfront got us really excited! BUT we’ve got to make do with the FABULOUS and VERY exciting Dragon Boat Races at Leeds Waterfront Festival instead! Hmmm….maybe next year!

There’s so much to look forward to at Leeds Dock this year, its hard to know where to start! Vintage and Handmade stalls will be in abundance all around the Dock with Artists in residence creating awesome street and community art. There will be a bar open all festival and watch out for some yarn bombing action from the creative OWLs tucked away at Magellan House….here’s a bit of a clue….

Not saying Red-bully boy is underdressed or anything….! There’s so much family fun planned with street performers, circus acts, bouncy castles and LOTS of music from folk to Samba, Vintage 78s to singing drag queens….and yes small detail, there’s a floating stage!

Did we mention the FABULOUS Camp Cooks?!

Two whole days of music on the stage, art, boat races, street food, markets, bar and family fun gives us just a slight hint that something really special is going to happen at Leeds Dock on 28th and 29th June this year… you’d be mad  to miss it!

Across the water from The Royal Armouries, our favourite Indian Restaurant, Mumtaz will be cooking up some street food and Sheesha on the waterfront for visitors to enjoy!
